Everyone needs a passive source of income in their lives. Income from just one full-time job is not enough. People need some other source of income without working 8 hours.
Hence we decided to jot down a list of 10 such side gigs that can pay you extra money working part-time.
It really doesn’t matter what is your educational background or work experience. You just need to have a passion to make money in your spare time.
You can choose anyone from the following 10 gigs and start working. Initially, you may have to work hard, but once you are familiar with the job you can make a good amount of money working part-time.
1. Writing and Editing
For me, the best side gigs to earn extra money is writing and editing. Although I am not a writer however I love to write in my spare time.
There are certain freelancing sites like Fiverr or Upwork where you can find some of the best writing jobs.
Some of the easiest forms of writing are content writing, article writing, ghostwriting, guest posting, etc.
You can create your profile on these freelancing sites and start getting projects from clients all over the world.
Usually, you are paid per word you write. For a 1000-word long article, you can easily earn $10 – $25, experienced writers can earn even more.
Similarly, you can also find editing work. You can work 2 to 3 hours daily and earn a decent income monthly.
2. Blogging and Vlogging
Blogging and Vlogging can be more difficult than writing. To succeed in blogging and Vlogging you have to bit creative and unique. However, they can be very rewarding.
In blogging, you communicate through written words but in Vlogging you create videos. Whatever content you are creating must relate to your audiences. You have to get followers who love your content.
Later you can monetize your blog or video channel with Google Adsense and earn money. You can work part-time on weekdays and full-time on weekends.
3. Online Surveys
To be honest online surveys are a great way to earn extra money in your spare time. However, the money you can earn is very limited.
You can join popular sites that provide survey-related work. You complete a survey, which is basically a form or a list of questionnaires, and submit it to the client.
To complete a survey it can take 2 minutes – 10 minutes. Usually, payouts are between $.5 and $5 per survey.
You can take surveys in your spare time and earn enough money that can at least pay your phone and internet bills.
4. Amazon mTurk
Amazon Mechanical Turk or mTurk is basically a data entry job. However to earn a decent income you have to work for extra hours.
You have to complete HITs (Human Intelligence Tasks) such as Captcha solving, copy & paste work, formatting, transcription jobs, surveys, etc.
You get paid between 10 cents to $1 depending upon the HITs given by your client. However to get work you have to qualify for the job. Amazon disqualifies people who are not professionals.
You can earn $100 – $150 per month working part-time.
5. Online Tutoring
Online tutoring has become not just a part-time opportunity but also a full-time job for many job seekers.
After the COVID pandemic demand for online tutors has gone up exponentially.
You get paid for teaching students online via Zoom or Google hangout. You can teach subjects like Math, science, history, arts, etc. But one of the most popular and high-paying subjects is English.
You can earn $15 – $30 for an hour-long session. You can join various online tutoring platforms like Tutor.com, Chegg, tutorme, etc.
You just have to teach 1 to 2 hours a day.
6. Intraday Trading
Intraday trading or day trading is the quickest way to make a huge amount of money. However, if you don’t know what you are doing then you can lose your entire wealth.
It takes just 5 minutes to 10 minutes to take a trade and earn profits. You can easily work on a part-time basis and make huge money in a few minutes.
However to become a successful trader you have to work hard and do a lot of research. If you can dedicate 3 to 4 hours daily then you can start trading.
7. Virtual Assistant
Just like online tutoring, after the pandemic virtual assistant jobs have seen a sharp rise in demand across industries.
A virtual assistant works from a remote location (mostly home) as opposed to a company’s office. Their task involves administration, supervising, bookkeeping, assisting, etc.
Most virtual assistants are hired for social media and customer services. A virtual assistant with some experience can earn up to $20 – $30 an hour.
However to become a good virtual assistant you need some kind of real-world training.
8. Sell Photography
If you like taking photos you can sell them online on websites like Shutterstock, Alamy, Etsy, Fotomoto, etc.
You don’t need to have a camera, just your iPhone is good enough to take high-resolution photos.
However, you must have a passion for photography. The types of photos that sell online are models, historical landmarks, nature, seasons, animals, vector artwork, etc.
You can easily earn up to $5 and even more for a photo. You can do photography on a part-time basis.
9. Real Estate Agent
I have been a real estate agent. If you live in a metropolitan city where real estate prices are high then you can sell or rent apartments and earn huge commissions.
You can work for a real estate company as an agent and don’t have to buy your own office. You need to build contacts to get new clients.
Whenever a client buys or rents an apartment or house through you, you get paid.
There are no fixed working hours for a real estate agent. You can choose your own timing.
10. MLM
Last but not least is MLM or multilevel marketing. I worked only on weekends as an MLM marketer and earned huge profits.
You just have to sell products to new people and earn commissions. However, you have to go out and meet new clients. You can’t work from home.
MLM is best suited for people who are not graduates and are less educated.
Conclusion
So these were the 10 best side gigs to earn extra money in your spare time. You can work while you are still in college or working somewhere.
You just need 2 to 3 hours a day. That’s it.
